Mota-Engil Group began its activity in Poland in 1997, with the award of two contracts for the construction and rehabilitation of 142 bridge structures on the A4 motorway, sections Wrocław-Prądy and Prądy-Nogawczyce.

In 1998 Mota-Engil purchased a road construction company, Krakowskie Przedsiębiorstwo Robót Drogowych, S.A. and in 2000 a bridge construction company, Przedsiębiorstwo Budowy Mostów w Lubartowie Sp. z o.o.

The activity of KPRD S.A., company known in regional and national markets, comprised the construction, reconstruction and modernization of motorways, roads, streets pavements, air fields, parking lots as well as other engineering, railway and hydro technical structures.

The output that resulted from 50 years of activity of KPRD in the construction field was significant, being involved in the execution of many vital road investments, the company built or renovated roads in a total length exceeding 3 500 km during 50 years of existence.

Przedsiebiorstwo Budowy Mostów w Lubartowie Spólka z o.o. had been run in different organizational forms since 1968. The company was known in Poland as one of the best bridge in the market.

Concentrating its activity within the south-eastern region of Poland it accomplished the construction, modernization and reconstruction of about 60% of all bridges and viaducts in this area. All in all it executed more than 450 bridge structures with a total length of 11 000 m during 40 years of activity.

As a result of a merger between these two companies, Mota-Engil Polska S.A., was founded on the 1st December 2004.

After the creation of Mota-Engil Polska, S.A., an essential part of the development strategy of the Company was the expansion of its activity to other areas of business, namely real estate and buildings construction as well as environmental related projects, such as water and sewage networks.

A significant investment in the renovation and acquisition of new heavy equipment, new premises, and mainly the recruitment and formation of young staff, was simultaneously carried out by the Mota-Engil Group.

The creation of Mota-Engil Central Europe in January the 1st 2010 marks the transition from a multi-polar model (based on autonomies by company and by country) to a Corporate Model, with an integrated strategy for Central Europe and with a transnational scope.

With the recent acquisition of two stone quarries, Mota-Engil Central Europe consolidated a stronger position in the construction sector, by becoming self-sufficient and independent from market disruptions or fluctuations.

Mota-Engil’s development strategy is sustained by a policy of development and consolidation of the Company’s presence in several regions, through the execution of small to medium sized works together with relevant big motorway and bridges contracts, creating a strong basis for our continuous development and supported growth in Poland and beyond it.

As a result of the referred strategic guideline, PRDM Lublin has been acquired by Mota-Engil Central Europe on June the 1st 2010.

In April 2011 Mota-Engil Central Europe became the main shareholder of Eltor S.A., specializing, among other things, in the execution of electrical power works.
